We're excited to announce that Grace & Lace products are now available at Sock Garden. :)
The Grace & Lace styles are so lovely, and the story of how they came to be is really touching.
Grace & Lace founder Melissa Hinnant was five months pregnant with a little girl, when a routine doctor's visit revealed devastating news. Told that she would give birth within 24 hours unless she got immediate surgical intervention, Melissa was rushed into emergency surgery to try to save her unborn child. Bedridden in the hospital for the rest of her pregnancy, Melissa decided to keep occupied by crocheting a blanket for her tiny girl.
For two weeks she lived in the hospital, but labour could not be delayed. As Melissa describes it, "Our very tiny but oh-so-perfect baby girl was born. With lungs not yet developed enough to survive on her own, the Lord took her straight to Heaven."
Something positive came from that moment of great sadness. Melissa's love of knitting and sewing grew, and she made her first pair of lacy leg warmers in autumn 2011. People were asking where she got them everywhere she went. So Melissa decided to put them up for sale online, and within days she was overwhelmed with orders. From those beginnings, Grace & Lace has rapidly blossomed, and has now sold hundreds of thousands of their trademarked lacy leg warmers and boot socks.
Determined to turn this success into a platform for making REAL change, Grace & Lace has partnered with Angel House to donate a portion of all proceeds from the sales of their goods in order to build orphanages in India.
We're really delighted to be carrying wonderful products from a business with a wonderful ethos. :)
